Mystic Wisdom Pt. 1: Manly P. Hall: The Secret Teachings of All Ages World Religions

In the realm of esoteric literature, few works have left as indelible a mark as Manly P. Hall's magnum opus, "The Secret Teachings of All Ages."

Published in 1928, when Manly was only 28 years old. The masterpiece took him 5-7 years or so to complete. He would work on the book for 4 hours every single day.

I visited his Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles recently and can't wait to go back.

Talk about a true mastermind who had a "4 hour work day". Literally.

The original book retails $500 publisher by Taschen but you can grab a copy on Amazon for the normal sized one $25: buy the book here

This book delves into the hidden dimensions of various spiritual traditions, shedding light on the interconnectedness of world religions.

With meticulous research and a profound understanding of ancient wisdom, Hall's work offers readers a journey into the heart of humanity's spiritual heritage.

The Tapestry of World Religions:

At the core of "The Secret Teachings of All Ages" lies a panoramic exploration of diverse religious systems that have shaped human thought throughout history. From the ancient mysticism of Egypt and the intricate symbolism of Freemasonry to the Eastern philosophies of Buddhism and Hinduism, Hall delves into the teachings, rituals, and symbols that underpin these faiths.

His intent is not to convert, but to illuminate the common threads that unite seemingly disparate belief systems.

At the left of the plate stands the Celestial Bull—signifying the constellation of Taurus--opens the "Egg of the Year" with his horns.

At the lower right is a bas-relief of the Persian Sun God, Mithras, in an attitude signifying the conquest of the sun over the Celestial Bull at the ancient vernal equinox. In the center stands the High Priest of Israel, his right arm encircling the base of the seven-branched candlestick—the Mosaic symbol of the Planetary Governors of the world. To his right is the statue of the golden calf and to his left the robed figures of the Greek mystics bearing a tripod in which burns the sacrificial fire.

Behind the bull Apis, crowned with the lunar globe, and Father Nile, bearing the horn of plenty and pouring the waters of life from his urn, loom the Pyramids—the great Egyptian temples of initiation.

In the clouds at the left is the seated figure of Jupiter Ammon, brandishing a flaming thunderbolt and horned to signify that he partakes of the attributes of the zodiacal ram. In the heavens appears the mystery of the Apocalypse aka The Book of Revelation you can learn about here on The four creatures of Ezekiel’s Vision surround an altar upon which is the Book of Seven Seals and the Lamb of God.

The Lamb of God who is the Messiah, the Christ returning as promised in the second coming.

Revelation 7:10: and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

At the upper left is the band of the zodiac. The constellations of Taurus, Aries, and Pisces represent the stellar influences which—according to the ancients—descending upon the earth, are responsible for the establishment of the religious and philosophical institutions herein set forth.

Syncretism and Unity:

Hall's work underscores the concept of syncretism, the blending and harmonization of various spiritual and philosophical elements. Through his analysis, readers come to understand that beneath the surface, many religious traditions share fundamental principles.

The quest for higher consciousness, ethical conduct, and a connection with the divine are recurring themes that bridge the gap between cultures and religions.

Map of Consciousness:

Esoteric Symbolism:

Central to Hall's exploration is the use of symbols as a language of the soul. He unravels the rich tapestry of symbols found within religious iconography, architecture, and rituals. These symbols, he asserts, hold deeper meanings that transcend time and culture. By deciphering these hidden messages, Hall invites readers to perceive the layers of wisdom that lie beneath the surface of religious practices.

A Journey Beyond Dogma:

Hall's approach is not one of blind reverence but of critical inquiry. His work encourages readers to move beyond the confines of religious dogma and explore the spiritual truths that resonate within them. He advocates for a personal journey of self-discovery and enlightenment, emphasizing the importance of direct experience and inner transformation over mere adherence to doctrine.

Manly P. Hall's "The Secret Teachings of All Ages" stands as a testament to the timeless nature of spiritual wisdom and the interconnectedness of world religions.

Through its pages, readers embark on a journey that transcends geographical and temporal boundaries, unraveling the hidden truths that underpin human existence.

These are the type of books that keep me profoundly engaged in learning more and more.

All the questions we have had about existence can be found in this book.

Hall's profound insights remind us that, regardless of our background, culture, or beliefs, the pursuit of higher consciousness and spiritual understanding is a universal endeavor that unites us all.

I will be writing consistent posts regarding his lectures on the Qabbalistic, Rosicrucian, Masonic, and Hermetic Philosophies to help educate the masses.

It's this "hidden" knowledge the world needs to be consuming in order to truly survive this world and it's state of being.

The only constant is change. Don't resist it.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. - Alan Watts
